Ebiware Dotimi Okiy was born in 1978 at Benin City, present Edo state of Nigeria. He is a graduate of B.Sc. Economics (2004) from the Obafemi Awolowo University , O.A.U. Ife. He ventured into photography immediately after his first degree under the tutelage of one of Nigerian’s prominent photographers, Don Barber in Lagos, Nigeria. After a comprehensive course in the art of nature and studio photography, Ebiware returned to Benin-City to pioneer the art of digital photography in the City by opening a commercial digital studio, Ebi’s photoshop, which is today regarded as the best digital studio in the Niger-Delta region.
In 2006, he ventured into documentary photography which has been a personal passion and assignment for him. Over the years, he has documented the life, style and culture of the people in the ancient City of Benin . His passion for documentary photography has also taking him out of the City of Benin to other parts of the country and beyond
Our environment is constantly evolving and shaped by events and strange happenings, giving an increasing need to preserve these events and happenings. Ebiware Okiy is one man that has taking the bold step to documenting (photographing) happenings around him. He has documented the annual Igue festival, Abuja carnival, African nations cup (Ghana 2008), FIFA under 17 (Nigeria 2009), lagos black heritage festival, Lagos carnival, itesekiri festivals etc.
In October 24, 2009 he held his first solo exhibition “A DAY IN TIME” displaying 30 works, some showing how Africans celebrate victory in politics.
